stop the presses!!

The other night, we went over to the bf's mom's house for dinner, and I had an important announcement to make.

......

....wait for it.....

......

I'm going to run the Race for the Cure 5K in the Spring!!!!

(you thought I was gonna say I'm preggers, didn't you?! Haha!)

Let me give you a little background....

The bf's aunt died of breast cancer before I met him.  Every year, his family and I walk the Race for the Cure in her memory.

This year has been a year of getting into shape and challenging myself physically.  If you asked me a year ago if I'd ever take some of the classes I take now, I'd be like "heck no! you're crazy!". Kickboxing, Spinning, and some hardcore weight training classes all taught by personal trainers? Used to scare the crap out of me!  But now they're part of my normal routine.

And running.....well, running and I have been frenemies for a while now. Emphasis on the last part of the word. :P  Let's just say that I used to claim that I will only run if being chased. Haha! My whole family is that way, actually.

I eventually started doing some interval jogging during walks outside and on the treadmill and....it's not so bad, actually! Maybe it's just because I'm in better shape, but my lungs don't always feel like they're going to burst anymore!

I don't really know what made me finally commit to running a 5K, and I still can't run for a long period of time, but I have several months to work on it.  And now I have friends who are going to do it with me, so I can't back down! *gulp*

Hey, maybe I'll even try to raise money for it this time!

Do any of you guys run?  Or thought about it?  Or are scared of it?!

Sorry, I didn't have time to comment until now... I used to run 15 miles a day... Yes, me... Even when I was a fatty... AND I did it with a cigarette in hand... Of course, It wasn't ALL at once... about 4.5 miles to my mom's, rest for a half hour, 4.5 miles back, shower, then 3 miles to work, work 8 hours straight (waiting tables) then 3 miles back... YEP... I've thought about doing it again, I've also thought about biking for a cause... Both require me to do some training seeing as I've slacked off on my biking lately (overtime.. huzzah!) I miss you and hope to hear from you again.. GOOD LUCK SIS! I'll be rooting for ya! How much is a donation to sponsor u? Get back to me and when is it due by?

wow, 15 miles?! and here i am struggling to make just over 3!

since writing this blog, i also signed up for a 5K on thanksgiving morning, so i've been training a lot lately....i can do a couple miles straight, but not the whole 5K yet. i'll work up to it!

i think i will try to do the donation thing this year for the first time. i'm not sure what the protocol is for it, but usually the race for the cure isn't til the end of may, anyway. i'll let you know! thanks!
