mirror art

about a year ago, i had the idea of putting up fragments of mirror up in the apartment.  at first, i just wanted to break a mirror and stick the shards to the wall.  and then i remembered that i'm a renter. haha!

so, i talked to my dad, and it just so happened that he had a few barn boards that i could use to put mirror shards on! (for those of you who don't know, i grew up on a farm, and a few years back, the upper level of one of the barns fell in.)

someone posted on freecycle (on yahoo groups - check it out if you haven't already!) that they had a cracked mirror up for the taking, so i responded.  i did the dangerous task of breaking the mirror some more (put in a bag, using a hammer, and wearing protective gloves and glasses!), and once i was done, the shards looked like pieces of a picture. so, using wood glue as an adhesive, this is what i came up with:

one of these days, i'll stop using my phone for a camera - these pics aren't the best quality!

but, yeah...i like the rustic feel they give to the apartment (which has a kind of generic feel with the white walls). someday, i'll be able to make a room completely the way i want it (hgtv style!). might be a few years, though.
