this morning, i pulled out of my apartment's parking lot, and drove to the end of the (winding) street. the sun was in my eyes, and i was near the middle of the road because it was a curve. in a split second, i saw a bus headed straight at me....i quickly veered out of the way, and the bus honked.
the weird thing is, i wasn't freaked out. i told myself over and over "i almost got hit by a bus", but i wasn't really reacting at all. my life didn't flash before my eyes, and i didn't have a chill up my spine. i find this disturbing....and ever since my first winter driving, when i slid on black ice and spun in a circle, stopping only few feet away from a tree, i have had a weird calmness when i'm in the car. that incident happened when i was only 16, and yes, it freaked me out at the time, but i've spun in many circles since then, and it's not really affecting me. is this normal?
i have never been in an accident (knock on frickin' wood), just many spin-outs (in winter) and a few close calls like the one today. is anyone else completely calm behind the wheel?

Well I'm glad you're okay! I'm the opposite of calm behind the wheel, even when I'm not risking death. I've never even driven on the highway without a passenger to tell me when it's okay to merge!
woah! and you live in milwaukee, right? how do you manage?
Not calm..I freak...but I am actually better now that I am a mom because i do not want my kids to freak, and I realize that staying calm will help me think better and quicker.
